Children’s Karate
4-12 years
At Golden Cobra, we offer children’s karate to our Little Cobras and older Mascots, introducing them to the wonderful world of children’s martial arts in our safe and inviting Melbourne dojo.
Little Cobra
The program is specifically designed for this age group:
- classes are conducted on a fully padded surface
- a safe, friendly and professional environment
- martial arts-oriented activities and games, they are sure to absolutely love
There is also the option to grade through the Little Cobras belt system, allowing your child to progress at their own pace. When they turn 6, children are invited to join our Mascot’s karate classes and continue their journey to black belt.
Mascot
- self-defence
- bullying
- respect
- discipline
are a core focus for this age group as students work to achieve the milestones leading to their next grading.
Our unique children’s karate program allows all students to work together at their own pace in order to progress through the belt system.
We welcome enquiries for new students in our Mascot’s martial arts classes, regardless of fitness level or prior experience, and encourage interested students to come to a free trial class to try karate for themselves.

FAQ for Children’s Karate
Little Cobras
Will my child be too young to start karate?
Our Little Cobras classes are open to four and five-year-old children and are specifically designed to engage pre-school age kids. The class offers play-based martial arts activities designed to keep them engaged. Starting karate early can help to improve concentration, focus and balance and lets children understand the way the dojo works, making their transition to the next level (mascots) easier.
Why is there only one class a week?
We understand that pre-school children often have a lot going on, so a weekly class allows them to start martial arts training without getting too overwhelmed.
Mascots
I’m not sure I want my child learning how to punch and kick – will karate make my child violent?
While this is a completely understandable concern, at Golden Cobra, we teach everyone that karate should only be used constructively and defensively, and never offensively. Our teaching focuses on techniques to react to potential real-life situations and we ensure our students know they should never be the aggressor.
We also have a significant focus on our Bushido codes, which value traits such as loyalty, honesty and benevolence. As students progress, they are encouraged to assist their less experienced classmates, help with class instruction and take on more of a leadership role within the dojo, so learning karate can help our younger members develop soft skills outside of the physical techniques they learn.
