Weapons
Green belt and above
The majority of our weapons students begin with a Bo (long staff), though we have students learning proficiency with a number of weapons, including Katana, Arnis and Tessen.
Our annual club tournament includes a weapons event (Kata), and past weapons students have achieved state and national level success at ISKA and other tournaments.
FAQ for Martial Arts Weapons
Do I need to know karate to do these classes?
Participation in Weapons classes is limited to students who have achieved a level of green belt and above, or by invitation. This is to ensure an adequate level of control to manage a weapon and familiarity with techniques used in the classes.
What weaponry is used?
Students participating in Weapons classes begin with the Bo (training staff) to gain familiarity with weapon control and technique. Once an appropriate level of proficiency is reached, there is the opportunity for students to learn a variety of different weapons depending on personal preference.
Do I have to take part in tournaments?
No! Participation in tournaments is entirely voluntary and based on personal preference. The club supports any student who chooses to enter tournaments and many of our members enjoy the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and learn from other dojos.
